Series on Lemurs of Madagascar

Updated: Aug 29, 2019

I will start talking from now on to the most well known of the Malagasy biodiversity, the Lemurs. But before starting, i will thank few persons whom without their Generosity, Kindness, Help, and Support in all ways i can't do what i am doing now. They are Dan, Tanya, and Jill from the NaturalExposures.com , Any words can't express my gratitude for them for all they do to me, Thanks a lot!

On this first series, i will talk about the origin of the lemurs, where you can find them? how many species of lemurs are known until now based through DNA analysis before seeing each of them one by one?

I prefer to answer first the last question before responding the first one. Up to now, and this is the last data the scientists have released at the beginning of the year 2018, the total number of the lemur species are now 113, one hundred and thirteen, most are nocturnal and some diurnal species. From that last announcement, still, new species of lemurs have been discovered, but to make the DNA analysis to make sure, confirm it's really new species and put the names, it takes time.

Let's go back to our first question and it's one of the biggest mystery when talking about the origin of the Lemurs. I want you, dear readers to react on this subject on which i am not in tunes with scientists...

Archaeoindris fontoynontii is an extinct giant lemur and the largest primate known to have evolved on Madagascar. It weighed approximately 160 kg (350 lb)

Actually, as scientists say lemurs are coming from Africa, the mainland, the continent and at a time of their story, they sailed through the sea with the help of vegetations or similar of these which could float, and were used as canoes by those animals to reach Madagascar. So, they say the origin of the lemurs is from Africa??? Personally, i do not agree with that because if ever they really came from that continent, how come they have never seen any fossils of any kind of lemurs in this "big" place. Actually, the only fossils that scientists have discovered up to now are coming from this country, Madagascar, India, and Pakistan and even the oldest of all of them, 30 million years old is coming from this latter one.

The second fact is the direction of the water, sea. The direction is from Madagascar to Africa, not the other way. So, any objects that are in Africa can never reach Madagascar coast. But, scientists "suppose" that at an ancient time, million years ago when Madagascar started to separate from Africa, the direction of the waves went the opposite ways, from Africa to Madagascar??? suppose???

For me, the origin of these animals which are called Prosimians, are from those places where the fossils are found. Prosimians include lemurs, lorises, galagos or bushbabies and tarsiers. They are before the Anthropoid means "resembling a human being", and may refer to: Simian, monkeys and apes. Thus, Prosimians mean before the monkeys and apes. So, they are the most primitive living primates.

Please, if ever my knowledge is lacking on that subject, light me on it before i continue on this subject, thanks a lot!
